Here are some ways that the various councils and
committees have supported Fairlawn's
rejuvenation in the past year:
- Replaced our boilers and installed a more energy-efficient
heating/cooling system
- Installed a multimedia system in the Sanctuary to provide a
visual dimension to our
worship
- Conducted two reviews, one into our governance and one into our
relationship with
The Fairlawn Neighbourhood Centre
- Developed policies and procedures around duty of care and
accessibility
- Funded the creation of an advocacy staff position at Toronto
Southeast Presbytery,
ably filled by Beth Baskin
- Launched the gift card fundraising initiative, raising over
$1,900 in the first 14
months
- Turned Greetings! (formerly a monthly publication) into a
shorter publication distributed weekly
- Ran a series of Stewardship breakfasts and lunches to help
members think about
the full role of giving our time, talent and treasures
- Hosted three candidates’ meetings for the community in a
12-month period, for the
municipal, federal and provincial elections
- Welcomed neighbours to the church for coffee and dessert
- Remembered those from our church who died serving their country
in the First World
War with Marybeth Duggan’s Poppies Grow display on the front lawn
- Collaborated with The FNC on a Family Dance for members of the
congregation and
the community
- Held our first Bethlehem Market with the Sunday School and
various church
‘artisans’
- Witnessed the completion of 40 Oaks affordable housing complex
- and we are undertaking a church identity project called 'How We
See Ourselves'
This list is only a small part of the total church activity in 2011.
By reading the reports in the
Annual Report
from the chairs of our councils, committees and teams, you’ll get
a clear picture of the Fairlawn rejuvenation.
