Families helping Families
Holiday Giving Initiative

Read the story of one family's experience and the hope
they found through the
Boundless Adventures Young Family Program. |
Thank you very much to everyone who volunteers to donate, buy a toy or book, or
knit for the
children in the Boundless Adventures Young Family Program.
For the past decade, Families Helping Families is
the holiday gift-giving project of Fairlawn Avenue United Church. Our congregation
helps disadvantaged families living in downtown Toronto enjoy a happier
holiday season by providing them with toys, books and knitted hats and mitts.
These families are participants in the Boundless Adventures Young Family
Program, a camp and community-based program for at-risk families with
young children. All families are single parent families and all have experienced
some time of violence in the past. Being a part of Boundless provides the
mothers with greater parenting confidence and satisfaction, greater emotional
support and increased parenting skills and knowledge. The children are given
opportunities for social skill development, increased emotional functioning,
decreased aggressive and maladaptive behaviours, and increased positive beliefs
and expectations. |
