The banner of the globe above the cross at the front of the church is a symbol
of Fairlawn's focus on the environment and on justice.
It is a symbol of God's
focus as well ~ "God so loved the world," reaching out to all people.
This particular photograph is a composite from three satellite images which
were taken on September 11, 1997. Hurricane Linda, the largest Pacific hurricane
on record, can be clearly seen. Both the dangerous weather and the September 11
date serve to remind us of the fragility of our planet.
