During Earth Hour, join over
a billion people around the
world as we unite to support
solutions on climate change.
Together we can create the
best possible future for
Canadians and for the
planet.
- let’s stop wasting
energy,
- let's generate what
we need from clean,
renewable sources like wind
and solar.
- the longer we wait,
the more it will cost – both
in dollars and environmental
impact.
Switch off your lights for
Earth Hour in last Saturday
night in March, 8:30 pm to
9:30 pm, to show your
support.
The most efficient and least
expensive way to reduce the
impact of greenhouse gas
emissions is to
CONSERVE ENERGY!
Please try to reduce your
energy consumption at all
times and in every way you
possibly can.
What
is Earth Hour?
Earth Hour
reaches more than
one billion people in
1000 cities around
the world, inviting
communities, business and
governments to switch off
lights for one hour at 8:30
pm on Saturday March and sending a powerful
global message that we care
enough about climate change
to take action.
What began as a campaign to
get Sydneysiders to turn
their lights off, has grown
to become one of the world’s
biggest climate change
initiatives. Now over one
billion people, more than
1000 cities, all join together in a global
effort to show that its
possible to take action on
global warming.
Earth Hour started in 2007
in Sydney, Australia with
2.2 million homes and
businesses turning their
lights off for one hour.
Only a year later and this
event became a global
sustainability movement with
up to 50 million people
across 35 countries
participating. Global
landmarks such as the Golden
Gate Bridge in San
Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum
and the Coca Cola billboard
in Times Square, all stand
in darkness, as symbols of
hope for a cause that grows
more urgent by the hour.
Earth Hour is a global
call to action to every
individual, every business
and every community. A call
to stand up, to take
responsibility and to get
involved in working towards
a sustainable future. Iconic
buildings and landmarks
around the world will stand
in darkness. People across
the world will turn off
their lights and join
together in creating the
vital conversation about the
future of our precious
planet.
Earth Hour is
a message of hope and a
message of action.
