The Science of Climate Change
a presentation by Dr. Paul Kushner
Sunday February 11, 2007 – The Science of Climate Change
Dr. Paul Kushner, Assistant Professor of Physics, University of
Toronto, and editor of Journal of Climate provided a stimulating presentation on
understanding the key climate change concepts and the underlying science of
global warming. This was a fantastic opportunity to understand the real science
behind climate change issues – from a scientific source!
This is a must read for anyone who is skeptical about the facts of global
warming.

This lecture is delivered by a professor in Boulder Colorado. His key
contention is that “The greatest shortcoming of the human race
is our inability to understand the exponential function.”
By explaining the realities of living in a world of finite resources, he
shows that we cannot keep growing. He explores this basic truth in terms of
population and oil as a specific resource example. He explains the “peak oil”
concept in simple terms using analogies such as bacteria growing in a bottle
with dry humour and great clarity. He exhorts his students and by extension all
of us to not believe so many claims he sites by experts that are simply absurd,
if studied using simple arithmetic. He allows us to understand that we will
reduce our consumption of all finite resources, by definition. The question is
whether or not we do it by choice or forced to by nature. Although he mentions
the climate crisis somewhat briefly, it is clearly a phenomenon to which these
key concepts also directly apply.
The lecture is found on youtube in 8 segments of about 9
minutes each. It is worth an hour of your time to change your life.
