Fairlawn Green Action:
Transportation Alternatives
Objective statement
Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by encouraging
people to USE ALTERNATIVE FORMS OF TRANSPORTATION such as
walking, cycling, transit, car pooling, teleworking by providing (1) education,
(2) options and (3) encouragement.
are
provided regularly on the web site and via email on issues of transportation. We
encouraged alternative forms of transportation such as the Clean Air Commute and
Cycling. For example, we organized a guided historic bike tour of the
Fairlawn neighbourhood to get folks excited about the joy of cycling again,
and to leave the car at home for short trips. We supported several Bike
Clinics at Fairlawn.
When it comes to how we drive, the difference between the most fuel-efficient
and least fuel-efficient drivers on the road is in the range of 35%, and a
poorly tuned vehicle can create up to 50% more emissions and use considerably
more gas.
Follow these easy driving tips to get the most mileage out of your vehicle –
and save money - while reducing carbon dioxide emissions at the same time.
slow down
avoid jack-rabbit starts; be easy on the pedal!
keep a steady pace
forget about idling and warming up more than a few seconds
Below approx 80 km/hr it is more
efficient in terms of drag to have the windows down (and the
air conditioner off), but
above that you should put your window up!
